Advent Devotional - Dec 5 - Genesis 12:1-3; 15:1-21

Read Genesis 12:1-3; 15:1-21

Contemplate: God chose Abraham by grace. He decided to initiate his plan for salvation by picking this man from the people of Mesopotamia and bless him and his descendants so that they could be a blessing to the world. God promised to give Abraham a son and a line of descendants as numerous as the stars, but warns that his family line will be enslaved in a foreign land before they are redeemed and given the Promised Land. This parallels our experience: we are chosen to be sons and daughters of God, but we are enslaved to sin, and then redeemed in order to enter heaven, the place God has prepared for us. You see, Abraham had faith, he trusted God, and his belief in God’s promises was credited to him as righteousness. God simply wants us to trust in his plan and his promises.

Pray: Thank God for his promises and his plan. Praise him for deciding to redeem a People for himself by his grace.
