Advent Devotional - Dec 3 - Genesis 1:1-2:3

This Christmas season we are embarking on a journey through the scriptures as we prepare for the coming of Jesus. Join us for this daily Bible reading guide that tells the whole story of God’s plan for redemption, culminating in the birth of Jesus. Each day there will be a scripture passage followed by a short commentary and a prayer prompt. This will take some dedication and a little hard work, but it will be worth it! We hope this devotional will help your heart be ready for Christmas. Please will take some time each day in the midst of this busy season to meditate on God’s Word and to listen to what he has to teach you. You can follow along on our blog, or you can download the printable version by clicking here.

Read Genesis 1:1-2:3

Contemplate: God existed before any material thing. He made everything by speaking the world into existence. This passage beautifully and poetically portrays how God created everything. He made things in complementary pairs each day, culminating in the creation of man and woman in the image of God. He gave them the responsibility to care for his creation and to be fruitful. Everything that God made was “very good” and he blessed his creation. God designed his creation to be good and to reflect his glory.

Pray: Thank the Lord for his work of creation. Praise him as the Creator, the only one worthy of our praise. Praise God for his wisdom and his sovereignty in creating all things to be “very good”.
